Upneeq

Could your eyes use a subtle pop? If your eyes have a droopy, tired look, wake them up with the first-of-its-kind non-surgical treatment, Upneeq®. With a once-daily eye drop, this truly eye-opening solution helps your eyes look clearer, brighter, and more refreshed.

What is Upneeq?

Upneeq is the first non-surgical option to temporarily widen the eyes. Available by prescription only, this once-daily eyedrop contracts the levator muscle in the upper eyelid to open your eyes wider and reduce redness for up to 6 hours.

What is Upneeq used for?

Upneeq is used to temporarily treat droopy, low-lying eyelids (including as a ptosis treatment). The benefits of Upneeq include:

  • Brightening the eyes and lifting the upper eyelid for a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance with no surgery or downtime
  • Stimulating a quick improvement of Botox-induced ptosis (eyelid sagging), a temporary side effect that is seen in about 3% of Botox patients

How does Upneeq work?

Uqneeq eye drops trigger the upper eyelid muscle (Mueller muscle) to contract, raising the eyelid an average of 1 mm after a single, daily drop. Once applied, patients will see a noticeably wider, clearer eye appearance after 5-15 minutes.

Am I a good candidate for Granite Bay Upneeq?

If you would like a short-term, non-surgical “eye lift” option to add a subtle enhancement to your eyes, you are likely a good candidate for Upneeq. Good candidates may also be patients who are experiencing Botox-related eye drooping and wish to alleviate these temporary side effects. Disclosing your medications, supplements, and medical history will help your provider determine if you can benefit from using Upneeq.

How do I use Upneeq?

Upneeq is prescribed in single-use vials, each containing enough solution to treat both eyes. Insert one drop into each eye, then discard the vial to avoid cross-contamination. A single prescription is for a 30-day supply.

Can I use Upneeq if I wear contact lenses or use other eye drops?

Yes! It is safe to use Uqneeq if you wear contacts or use most other eye drops, just wait 15 minutes before inserting your contacts or applying additional eye drops approved by your doctor to use together.

Does Upneeq help hooded eyes?

No, Upneeq does not treat hooded eyes—it can only temporarily widen them. An upper eyelid lift surgery would be necessary to remove excess skin and fat to reconstruct the eyelid.

Is Upneeq safe?

Upneeq is FDA-approved and is considered to be safe for most patients in good health. Patient safety is our first priority at Granite Bay Cosmetic Surgery, so we will discuss your medical history for certain conditions that could be affected by Upneeq and any supplements or medication that could interact with the eye drops before prescribing Upneeq.

Upneeq may increase your blood pressure and pose a risk for high blood pressure, hypertension, hypotension, and cardiovascular issues. It also has the potential to interfere with antidepressant medication and should be avoided if you have Sjogren’s syndrome, cerebral or coronary insufficiency, or untreated narrow-angle glaucoma.

What are the side effects of Uqneeq?

In clinical trials, various mild side effects occurred in only 1-5% of patients. These side effects include:

  • Eye irritation, inflammation, and/or dryness
  • Conjunctival hyperemia
  • Punctate keratitis
  • Headache
  • Blurred vision
