Granite Bay Chemical Peels

Acne scars, brown spots, dullness, fine lines and wrinkles. These signs of “aging,” on the skin’s surface begin to appear when we’re relatively young, and only persist as the years go by. One great solution (quite literally) to these issues: a chemical peel!

Chemical peels are acidic solutions that exfoliate the outer layers of skin to reveal smoother, healthier skin cells beneath. They are quick, cost-effective treatments that can yield dramatic improvements for a variety of skin types and issues.

What peels do you offer at Granite Bay Cosmetic?

Our licensed, experienced skin care professionals offer a variety of peels, including:

  • VI Peel®. Anti-aging peel to improve tone and texture, with options to target more progressive signs of aging, such as fine lines or sun damage
  • VI Peel® PURIFY. Clarifies an acne-prone complexion; VI Peel® PURIFY w/ Precision Plus also reduces acne scars.

We’ll help you choose the right peel for your skin type and goals at your skincare consultation. In the meantime, keep reading to learn the difference between light, medium and deep peels and what conditions each can treat…

Types of peels and how they can help you ♥ your skin

Chemical peels are like cocktails for your skin—they come in a variety of recipes and strengths to suit a variety of skin types and target different skin concerns. Peels can be applied to the face, chest, hands, back and other areas of the body.

Light chemical peels: tone, brighten & tighten

The lightest peels only remove the outermost layers of skin to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. Common light peels include Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), glycolic acid, fruit enzymes, and salicylic acid. Specific examples include the VI Peel and VI Purify peel. Light peels require no special prep, no anesthetic, and little to no downtime. One peel can achieve moderate improvements; a series can yield dramatic results. You might consider a light peel to:

  • Reduce brown spots and sun damage
  • Minimize fine lines
  • Calm acne and inflammation
  • Balance the complexion
  • Smooth rough patches
  • Get radiant, glowing skin for that big event

Medium peels: minimize blemishes and restore a more youthful complexion

If you’ve let your guard down against the sun a little too long, a medium peel can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and other signs of visible skin aging. TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peels, the Obagi Blue Peel, and Jessner’s Peel are examples. Medium peels may require special pre-treatment skincare prep and topical anesthetic, although options such as the VI Peel Precision or Precision Plus can achieve similar results to medium peels with less irritation.

Expect a few days of downtime at most while visible peeling occurs, and you may need to veto makeup for a little while. The reward is skin that appears noticeably smoother and more youthful. You might consider a medium peel to:

  • Reduce mild to moderate acne scars
  • Reduce hyperpigmentation
  • Smooth out fine lines and wrinkles
  • Tone and tighten a crepey appearance

Deep peels: treat precancerous lesions & more severe signs of skin aging (but proceed with caution)

There are chemical peels that go as deep as the dermis (the second section of skin underneath the epidermis). These peels typically contain phenol, croton oil, or a high concentration of TCA, and can dramatically improve wrinkles, virtually eliminate acne scars, and remove precancerous lesions.

Deep peels are serious business—you’ll need some anesthesia during treatment and 5 to 10 days of downtime to let the skin heal. Don’t let just anyone perform a deep peel on you; if you’re considering this treatment, go to an experienced plastic surgeon who can help you understand the process and can provide safe, effective treatment.
