Granite Bay Fat Transfer

Your own fat may be just the ticket to rejuvenate your face or enhance your curves.

Do you carry around pockets of stubborn fat you’d rather do without, yet lack volume in other areas? Ever wish you could just redistribute the goods to play up your best assets? A fat transfer can help you do just that.

How a fat transfer can help you boost your natural beauty

By pairing liposuction with fat grafting, our surgeons can reduce stubborn fat bulges to sculpt a leaner, sexier physique, and then use a portion of the excess fat to accentuate areas where you could benefit from a volume boost. While they can remove a substantial amount of fat with liposuction, our doctors stick to small volume fat grafts, which they consider safer and more reliable than larger volume fat transfers. For example, they may suggest fat transfer to:

  • Achieve a subtle breast augmentation (≤ 1 cup size) without implants
  • Enhance the results of breast augmentation with implants
  • Improve symmetry between features
  • Restore volume to an aging face or hands
  • Correct volume deficits from previous liposuction procedures

About fat transfer surgery in Granite Bay

Our surgeons perform fat transfer procedures during a single operation at our private surgery center in Granite Bay. General anesthesia is used and provided by a board certified anesthesiologist. A fat transfer involves three basic steps:

  • Liposuction. Your doctor will remove fat from your hips, belly, thighs, back, or other areas where you’d like to slim down.
  • Fat purification. A portion of the fat is purified in a centrifuge to prepare it to survive in a new location.
  • Fat injections. Your doctor strategically injects the purified fat into the areas where you need a volume boost.

The transferred fat cells then need to attach to the blood supply in their new location. This takes time, and up to 50% of the relocated fat cells will die off and be metabolized by the body. To account for this process and achieve your desired final result, your surgeon may intentionally overfill the area initially.

All the key facts you need

Because fat transfer procedures are customized to a patient’s goals and anatomy, recovery protocols vary.

Expect post-op bruising and swelling from the liposuction. This can be mild to moderate, depending on how much fat was removed and from where. You’ll also have to wear a compression garment for 3 to 6 weeks. Learn more about liposuction recovery»

Avoid putting direct pressure on the areas where your surgeon injected fat. We’ll explain activity modifications in detail during your consultation. Most patients are back to work within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery; back to exercise in 3 to 4 weeks.

When will I see results after a fat transfer?

Post-op swelling can obscure your initial results, so don’t worry if you don’t notice a huge difference at first. The bulk of swelling resolves within 2 to 3 weeks; by then you’ll see your new contours looking better every day.

Because your surgeon will typically intentionally overfill the area, you may have an overly full look at first. As the body metabolizes the fat that doesn’t survive and post-op swelling subsides, your results will improve and look natural once you have healed adequately.

Results after a fat transfer typically look fabulous within 3 months after surgery.
