Preparing for Your Laser Resurfacing Treatment
Getting the best results starts with a little preparation. Here’s how to get your skin ready:
- Avoid sun exposure: Stay out of direct sunlight and skip tanning beds for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. UV exposure can increase the risk of complications.
- Pause active skincare ingredients: Stop using retinoids, glycolic acids, and exfoliating agents about 5–7 days before your appointment to avoid irritation.
- Stay hydrated: Well-hydrated skin responds better to laser treatments and recovers more quickly.
- Avoid other treatments: Hold off on waxing, dermabrasion, or chemical peels on the treatment area for at least 2 weeks prior.
- Support your skin pre-treatment: If possible, use a consistent regimen of medical-grade skincare for a few weeks leading up to your treatment. While not required, healthy skin that’s well-maintained tends to respond better and heal more efficiently.
- Let us know if you have a history of cold sores: We may prescribe an antiviral medication to prevent flare-ups.
What to Expect During Treatment
We begin with a consultation to assess your skin and goals. Treatments usually last 30–60 minutes and include topical numbing for comfort. After treatment, you may notice warmth, redness, swelling, or a grid-like or speckled pattern depending on your selected option.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients need just one CO₂ laser resurfacing session with the Alma Hybrid to see dramatic improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness. In some cases—such as treating deeper lines or more stubborn areas—a follow-up treatment may be recommended 3 to 12 months later to build on your results.
Collagen production continues to increase gradually, with a peak in visible improvement typically around 6 to 9 months after treatment.
During your consultation, we’ll give you a detailed pre-treatment guide customized to your skin and chosen procedure. Following these steps helps ensure a safe experience and smoother recovery.
Recovery & Aftercare
Healing typically involves 7 to 10 days of redness, swelling, and skin flaking as your skin renews itself. We’ll provide you with clear, step-by-step aftercare instructions to support your recovery—like avoiding sun exposure, using gentle skincare products, and keeping your skin moisturized.
Sticking to your customized skincare plan not only helps you heal more comfortably but also supports the best possible long-term results.
