How Kybella injections reduce neck fat
Kybella’s secret is deoxycholic acid, a substance already produced by your body to help break down fat. Unfortunately, you can’t tell you body “hey, send some more of that deoxycholic acid over to my double chin,” but Kybella injections deliver it directly to the fat pad beneath the chin, where it gets to work. Basically, Kybella dissolves the cell walls of unwanted fat cells, releasing the fat inside. Your body then metabolizes this fat as waste.
The fat cells destroyed by Kybella do not grow back. Therefore, as long as you maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle, you can enjoy the results for a lifetime.
What to expect with your Kybella treatment
We perform Kybella injections as a in-office treatment at our Granite Bay Cosmetic Surgery medical spa. After reviewing your treatment goals, we will numb the treatment area to help minimize discomfort during injections. When you are ready, we will inject small amounts of Kybella in specific locations beneath the chin to achieve even fat reduction and natural-looking results. Treatment takes approximately 20 minutes total.
Following Kybella treatment, you can expect some swelling, numbness and tenderness under your chin. This may last for a few days. However, you can return to your normal activities as you feel comfortable (many patients choose to take the rest of the day off work).
When will I see results?
The fat cell destruction is very quick, but it takes a few weeks for your body to process the affected matter as waste. Typically, patients notice their double chin beginning to shrink within two to four weeks, although improvements continue for several months. Results are considered final about three to six months after your last Kybella treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your goals and how much excess fat you hope to do away with. Typically, patients choose to have three to six Kybella treatments, spaced about six weeks apart. Scheduling treatments a six weeks apart gives Kybella time to work and lets you decide when you’ve had the right amount of treatments to be satisfied.
What are the possible side effects?
Kybella is FDA approved and has an excellent safety profile when performed by a qualified provider. The most common side effects are temporary, mild numbness, pain, swelling and redness at the injection sites. More serious side effects, such as prolonged numbness or difficulty swallowing, are very rare.
As with any injectable treatment, provider skill is key with Kybella. A thorough knowledge of facial anatomy and symmetry is a must for safe injections and great results.
